Lonlas 7th Annual Carnival & Football Tournament At Tennant Park, Skewen 21st and 22nd of May, 2005

Running an annual football tournament is difficult enough as anyone who has been involved in the organisation of such an event can confirm, but when you play host to over 140 teams, the logistics involved create major headaches!

With 6 successful tournaments under our belts, the Lonlas Committee have built up considerable expertise in organising and staging major soccer events and this knowledge proved invaluable in arranging and staging this year's tournament over the weekend of May 6th and 7th 2005.

The Committee would like to thank the numerous volunteers who work long hours to make this tournament such a success and to the young players who gave up their time to referee the matches. We are very fortunate as a club to enjoy such a huge pool of people who are willing to give up their time to throw their efforts into making this a memorable weekend. To name them all would be impossible and I would always run the risk of forgetting someone. I would like to thank them all on behalf of the children of Lonlas for their hard work.

Over two days the weather could not have been more contrasting. Heavy showers of rain throughout the Saturday did little to help the event however, the rain did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the players, and the day proved to be a success. The Sunday, despite a wet start, enjoyed sunshine throughout the day and the atmosphere created by the 83 participating teams was superb.

The standard of play on show throughout the weekend was of an exceptional standard and Lonlas would like to thank all the players and coaches for their excellent conduct. Over 1,500 adults attended the tournament, 140 teams participated, numerous children turned up to support their brother and sisters and 20 teams went home clutching hard earned trophies. To the winners, Lonlas offer their congratulations, to those teams that did not get to the finals, we would like to offer them the opportunity to come back again next year and go that extra step.
