| Tours : Zwolle (Hanze Trophy) |
|

Overview
For our fifth consecutive
Easter tour we decided to compete in The Hanze Trophy for the second
time. Those of us who traveled to Zwolle in 2003 remembered the
tournament as being exceptionally well organised with quality teams
from all corners of Europe . The Hanze Trophy 2005 lived up to
our first impressions with the standard of play being equally as
good.
The Tour began on Thursday March 24 th with the double decker bus carrying
the 49 players and 19 adults finally departing at 21.30pm. The bus took some
loading with 8 sets of kits, food and essential supplies, footballs, medical
kits as well as the suitcases and luggage being eased into the luggage bays.
Finally we headed off for Dover and an appointment with a P&O cross channel
ferry.
The drive to Dover usually seems to fly by,
however, a combination of road works on the M20, fog and a bus
that didn't like hills meant that we missed our original ferry
crossing. Having eventually boarded the P&O Calais bound ferry,
everyone left the bus and headed for the upper decks. Another smooth
crossing meant that we should
have docked in Calais approximately 1 hour after leaving the White Cliffs.
Unfortunately a combination of docking problems at Calais and fog in the Channel
meant that we finally touched French soil at around 7.00am Friday morning.

Previous experience has shown that,
once we leave Calais ferry port, the majority of the bus drifts
off to sleep, and this year was no different.
With only one brief stop in a Belgian service station, we pulled
into “de Siggels”, the venue for the Hanze Trophy late in the afternoon.
The boys grabbed a football and headed straight for the Astro-turf
while the team leader completed the formalities of registering
the teams for the competition. After about an hour the bus left
the Tournament venue and headed for Westerbergen Bungalow Park
, approximately 40 minutes away.
With the travelling over, everyone headed off to their designated
bungalows to unpack, shower and relax. |
